What's in the data

Every field is measured from the public register and other open government data, for every active UK private company with a filed headcount. This page lists only what's built, so it changes as fields are added.

Which fields are in it?

Size and shape

Staff and staff change: Average headcount from the latest filed accounts, and the change against the accounts before.
Sector: The company's main activity as recorded on the register, in plain sector names.
Region: The region of the registered office.

Ownership

Owner aged 60 or over with nobody under 50 in place: A controlling owner aged 60 or over, and no current director or individual owner under 50, from the month and year of birth on the register. Held as a yes or no flag against the company.

Which companies are covered?

Every active UK private company with a filed headcount is in. Dormant companies, holding companies with no staff and trustees are being taken out; until then, figures are dated and marked as measured before cleaning.

Where does it come from?

Companies House. Nothing is estimated without saying so, and no figure on this site comes from anywhere else.
